UD Scholars Peer Mentors are here to answer questions and give peer to peer advice and guidance from the student perspective.

Hey, my name is Kayden Usher and I’m a Junior Economics Major. I enjoy playing the guitar, dressing up and playing video games. I chose to be a peer mentor because I enjoy helping new students get acclimated to their new environment.
Advice for students:
Get to know your professors and have a good relationship with them.

Hello! I’m Collin and my pronouns are He/Him. I’m a K-8 Education major with a minor in Arts. I chose to be a peer mentor because I know how hard adjusting to college can be and it’s so helpful to have someone to go to for help and advice. I am an RA in Gilbert Hall, so you’ll see me around if you get placed there! My dog Zoe lives with me in the dorms part time so if you ever see me and her around feel free to come and say hello! I’m really excited for this upcoming year!
Advice for students:
One piece of advice I have is to understand that setbacks and mistakes may happen, but it’s okay to not know everything when you first get here, and it’s okay to ask for help. No question is a stupid question. This is your first time in college, and you don’t have to be perfect.

Hi! My name is Olivia Hodgson (she/her), and I’m majoring in Pre-Social Work and Counseling. I’m passionate about mental health, advocacy, and creating safe spaces where people feel seen and supported. Academically, I’m especially interested in the ways trauma, environment, and community impact behavior and development. I chose to become a peer mentor because I know how valuable it is to have someone in your corner—someone who’s been there, gets it, and genuinely wants to help you grow. I’m excited to support others on their journey and build a community that uplifts and empowers each other.
Advice for students:
Don’t be afraid to ask for help—college isn’t about having it all figured out, it’s about learning as you go.

Hello :)! I’m Kat and I go by they/she. I’m a Human Services major with a concentration in Family & Community Services! In my free time I either participate on a research internship here at UD or I chill in my room playing games and watching YouTube.
Advice for students:
My biggest piece of advice is to never be afraid to chase new experiences and aim high—even if you stumble along the way.

My name is Luz Luna. I am a class of 2028 nutrition and dietetics major with minors in leadership and sports management. I really enjoy reading and spending time with friends on my time off as well as going to coffee shops. I chose to be a peer mentor because I am passionate about helping people and I think it will be really fun to meet new people.
Don’t procrastinate, take it one day at a time, and manage your time wisely.

Hi, I’m Yessell! I am a Human Services major. I love going out on walks and working out in my free time. I also love getting coffee. I get it almost every day. I became a peer mentor because I just love making people feel comfortable, especially new students at such a big school. It can definitely feel a little overwhelming at first, and I want to be that person who makes things feel a little easier. My own peer mentor and I actually got super close and became really good friends, so that experience made me want to do the same for someone else.
Advice for students:
If I could give one piece of advice to an incoming student, it would be to not be afraid to put yourself out there. Whether it’s joining a club, talking to someone in class, or going to a random event, those things really help you find your people and make the most of college.
