Exploring Majors Course

Advising as Teaching

The UST Program uses an advising-as-teaching model by making advisors available in the office and in the classroom. Each spring, we offer a one-credit course, UNIV117: Exploring Your Academic Path, which combines self-exploration, academic resources, engaging discussions and activities to provide students with a greater understanding of the components that can contribute to their academic and professional success.

As an added component of the course, students take the Strong Interest Inventory administered by the Center for Counseling and Student Development to help them determine possible career interests.  A representative of the Career Services Center  also joins the class to introduce them to the Major Resource Kits and discuss how students can build their professional experience while in college and enhance their resumes before graduation.
